The little Easter bunny hoped around the garden looking for a very special place to put his very special burden. He was a little bunny, all white except for his pink little nose and golden brown eyes.
“I wonder” he said as he placed the very special egg in the buttercup bushes. It was Sarita’s favourite place to hide after all . “ Yes…it will do.” muttered the little bunny, humming a tune he happily turned around hoping toward the dorandia edge in the front yard before disappearing down a hole which conveniently closed when he sprinkled some stardust over it as he went.
Sarita’s mother was looking out the window she saw a pair of white ears popping out from behind the buttercup bushes and smiled. Sarita and she had been making lovely bunny ears for her Easter hunt today. They had stayed up all night painting the chocolate eggs with brightly coloured edible paints. When they dried they were wrapped up in their own colourful plastic pockets and sealed. Only one thing overshadowed their joy, is not having Sarita’s father home for the holiday. Sarita’s father was an IT Manager his boss called him away on a last minute trip to conduct training.
“Mommy?” she said “ Will daddy be back for the Easter Egg Hunt?”
“No, love?”
“But he promised…..he will make it” said 4 year old Sarita. “I just know it”
“Maybe……” said her mother even though she doubted it.
“I will make a very special egg just for daddy” she smiled up to her mother.
“I’m sure he will love that. Especially if it comes from you.”
The hunt was about to begin, all 10 kids were at the ready. “Ready-Set-Go!” 10 pairs of chubby legs churned as they bent and crawled around the tree stumps and grassy patches of the front yard. Sarita was very disappointed that her father had not arrived as yet, and ran to her favourite hiding place that she didn’t think her mother knew about. She was about to sit when something hard met her bottom. She turned around and saw what is was and her eyes widened in excitement. It was the biggest and shiniest egg she had ever seen. It was all different colours. Green. Red. Blue. Yellow. She held onto it as tight as she could and began running to show her mother what she had found. She tripped and dropped the egg. It split open and a peace of paper fluttered out that said “ Make a Wish.” She was learning how to read now, so she pronounced each letter. And she knew what that meant.
She held it firmly to her chest, shut her eyes tight and wished with all her little heart.
When she opened them, she saw a movement by the veranda – it was her father reaching out to her with a hand extended.
“Thank you Easter Bunny! My daddy is better than any chocolate.”
Sarita ran into his arms hugging him closely, as he took out the bright purple and silver chocolate bunny wrapped in tin-foil from behind his back. She was turning away toward the house now holding onto her father’s hand pulling him along eager to show him the very special surprise she had for him.
The End
